How To Make An Omelet That’s Super Fancy
You can make this easy omelet recipe as simple or as fancy as you like. Some people prefer them with just eggs and cheese. Others like to toss some ham in to the omelet. Here are some ingredient ideas that you can mix and match to make the super tasty omelet of your choice!
- Crumbled bacon or bacon bits
- Ham, or other lunch meat, sliced small
- American, Cheddar or Mexican cheese blend
- Blue cheese
- Goat cheese
- Any other cheese you would like to try
- Sliced black olives
- Sliced mushrooms
- Chopped green onion – These are great for filling and also for a pretty garnish at the end.
- Chopped white onion or red onion – Go easy on these so they don’t dominate the flavor
- Bell peppers or other peppers – Any color is OK. if you like spicy foods, you can experiment with hot peppers, but it’s best to start conservatively with the hot peppers so you don’t overdo it.
- Cilantro, if you’re going for a Mexican theme
- Diced tomatoes
- Salsa – Chunky pico de gallo style salsas work well, but you can use others. If it’s very watery, you might drain some of the liquid or use it sparingly.
Easy Omelet Recipe Shortcut
If you’re only planning to make one or two omelets, here’s an easy shortcut for the filling ingredients: If your grocery store has a salad bar, instead of buying all the ingredients separately, buy a collection of the ingredients from the salad bar that you think sound good as omelet fillings.
I would often make my wife breakfast omelets for special occasions like her birthday or Mother’s Day. I would visit the salad bar the night before and look for ingredients that sounded good. You can use the small salad dressing cups to get the perfect amount of each ingredient ready to just pour into the opelet as you cook it.
This is an easy way to experiment with new filling ingredient possibilities when you’re learning how to make an omelet.

For 1 egg, would I use only 1 Tbls of mixed ingredients?
I too have had a hard time trying to make omelets. I will certainly try this one. Thanks!
Sheri it doesn’t need to be exact you really can use as much or as little as you would like of the mixed ingredients.
I got an omelet pan at an estate sale for $2. I finally succeeded making an omelet. I no longer go out for omelets. The last time I went was 6 years ago, when my son and I went out for breakfast. Our meal, which had hash browns for him and coffee for both of us, was over $30 once we added the tip. I’m sure it is more now.
I look at menus online to get ideas for different kinds of meals often. I just made a Caprese omelet, which has tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. That was delicious.
