This easy breakfast skillet recipe is a hearty classic breakfast recipe your family is sure to love! Breakfast skillets are tasty and easily adaptable, so you can customize them for your family's tastes! They're great served for breakfast or dinner, so don't be afraid to make it an evening meal!

My family absolutely loves breakfast skillets! These popular breakfast items are popular at restaurants like Denny’s or Perkins.

Even though they are often listed as a breakfast item, skillet recipes can be served anytime! Our favorite family theme park, Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri has one food stand specifically dedicated to selling different combinations of skillet meals and we have loved eating them after a long day of walking around the park!

This breakfast skillet recipe is an easy but hearty breakfast or dinner recipe. If you like, you can serve it as a one-dish meal, especially if you include the veggies in the skillet.

If you prefer, you can serve alongside other popular breakfast items like biscuits, toast, muffins or pancakes! You can also serve with your favorite fruit juice, like orange juice or apple juice.

This skillet recipe is great to make when you have family or friends over because it can easily be doubled, tripled or more to feed as many people as you have.

It’s also a great recipe for camping because its super easy to make and you can include ingredients that last longer. Since it can be a one-dish meal, it’s easy to put into a disposable bowl and eat next to the campfire!

You can add any additional ingredients that you want, including:

  • spinach
  • cheese
  • mushrooms (oh YUM!)
  • parsley
  • cilantro, if you like a little hint of Mexican flavor
  • any color of bell peppers
  • hot peppers, if you prefer a little extra zip
  • anything else that sounds good with potatoes, onions and meat

Tips To Make The Breakfast Skillet Recipes Turn Out Great!

Make sure your skillet is large enough. I use a 10-inch skillet for a family for 4-6. If you’re not sure, you can use a larger one so it’s easy to manage.

This breakfast skillet recipe is a great way to use leftovers. You can cut up leftover baked potatoes and use them, use leftover bacon (yeah right! leftover?? LOL), leftover scrambled eggs, leftover onions or leftover peppers. Just heat through.

The potatoes need to soften. If you have leftover baked potatoes, cut them up and toss them in. If you’re using raw potatoes, cut them into bite-size pieces, place them in the skillet, put the lid on the skillet and let the potatoes steam for 5 minutes before adding the rest of the ingredients.

One other reason I love making the breakfast skillets is that I have to eat gluten free. It can be hard making gluten free foods, but this easy breakfast skillet recipe is easy to make gluten free. If you have problems eating dairy, you can leave out the dairy items, too.

Sounds great but a little confused. Recipe states 1 onion diced than 1 onion chopped. Does that mean I need 2 onions?

It is a typo Ana thanks for letting us know. There should be only 1 onion.

I love this dish. I add a little polish sausage to mine.
