Homemade Snickerdoodle Cookies Jar Mix Recipe And Bean Soup Mix

I had just finished typing up all of the things below when my neighbor called me (she was out of town for the weekend) and frantically asked me if I would get my copy of the Dining on a Dime Cookbook and look up our recipe for skunk odor removal from the cookbook. Her dog had just had a run-in with a skunk.

I chuckled as I gave it to her, explaining that I had just been trying to paint a picture for everyone of just how many different and unusual things we have included in Dining on a Dime. The skunk odor remover was one I had completely forgotten about!

(My neighbor just called again as I was finishing this section and I told her what I was writing. She said to tell everyone that the skunk stuff really works and that the dog gets to sleep in the house tonight. Ahhh. Another happy ending. : ) : )

When we say there are over a 1200 recipes and tips in the Dining on a Dime Cookbook, there really are! Some of them are very different, unusual and hard to find.

The last third of the book is the greatest part when it comes to saving money. We have included a huge section of Dining on a Dime dedicated to basic cleaning along with recipes to make almost every homemade cleaning product you can think of including:

Dining On A Dime Cookbook

  • laundry detergent
  • window cleaner
  • all purpose cleaner
  • dishwasher soap
  • fruit and vegetable wash
  • hand cleaner
  • and so much more…

There is another large section for kids full of lots of homemade recipes including:

  • slime
  • edible play dough
  • sidewalk chalk
  • finger paints
  • face paint
  • bubbles
  • egg dyes
  • crystal gardens
  • snow cones
  • strawberry leather
  • fudgesicles

There are several chapters full of recipes and tips for great homemade gifts to make for Christmas including:

Recipes for lip balm, scrubs, bath oils and salts, bath bombs, bath gel, scented bath bubbles, lotions, bath powders, toothpaste, hand cleaner, salve, leg wax and so on.

There are also tons of ideas for homemade gift baskets and homemade jar mixes. Some of the jar mixes recipes included in the Dining on a Dime Cookbook are:

  • Coffee mixes
  • tea mix
  • hot chocolate mixes
  • cookie mixes
  • muffin mixes
  • homemade shortbread
  • soup mixes
  • homemade funnel cake mix
  • potpourri

Those are great ideas, thank you.

I’m always looking for ideas to give my brother-in-law who is in is 50s and lives alone. I always give baked goods but they don’t stay fresh that long.

Perhaps giving a few baked goods and then mixes like this for him to make later would be a much better idea.

    Thanks!

I own Not Just Beans and I don’t think these great things are in there. Do you have a different publication with this addtional information? I would love to have it!

Julie the main difference between Not Just Beans and Dining on a Dime is we added a chapter on Cleaning and we put our Pretty for Pennies book that we use to sell separate into it too. (That had recipes for beauty products, lotions, bath products etc).

We put in some cleaning products in Not Just Beans but added a few more into the Cleaning chapter of Dining but all the mixes, the kids recipes and a few cleaning products should be in Not Just Beans.

Jill, I’ve done the drain unclogger recipe using the baking soda and vinegar and it works great. I unclogged my sluggish bathtub and bathroom sink the other day, and now they drain REAL FAST. Thanks.

My girls love baking and this year we’re going to aim for lots of homemade gifts because money is tight so a jar of ‘snickerdoodle mix’ each would be lovely 🙂

PS I also tried the drain cleaner and it worked so I’m scheduling it for once a month.

I love all your tips and these jar recipes are a great idea i may be using this year!

I have dining on a dime. I searched this site but haven’t found the info i am looking for: do you have a recipe for a dishwasher cleaner like you would use monthly to keep the dishwasher in good working condition? I had renters in my house while we were in Florida for 1 year on a short assignment and now the machine doesn’t work as well as it did when we left.

Sam you may have a couple of things going on with it. First be sure to check and clean out the filter. Then you can mix equal parts of Borax and Washing Soda (not baking soda) which are found by the laundry detergent in your store. Put in the soap dispener and run it through a cycle without dishes. If it is bad you may have to do it twice.

Lori not quite sure what you could be doing wrong because we just tried this again and everything fit in fine. You might try tamping it down a little. What I do to tamp something down is I take a table knife or large spoon and just slowly slide it up and down through all of the ingredients in the jar several times and that compacts it down so that it should all fit.
