Slow Cooked Ham Recipe

1 ham

Cover the bottom of a roasting pan with aluminum foil. Bake ham at 250° for 1 hour. Reduce the heat to 175° and roast another 12-15 hours. This is great because you can put in the oven overnight and it will be ready the next day for the noon meal. The cooking time can go for longer if needed to fit your schedule since it is at such a low temperature.

Do you use an already cooked ham for this recipe.

No Angie. Precooked hams only need to be warmed through and they are ready to go. Some times I like to add things like cloves, pineapple or sauce to my precooked hams and if that is the case I will put them in the oven (or crock pot) on very low to cook for a while to help the flavors to blend into the ham.

I do this with picnic shoulders as well. The picnic shoulders fit into the slow cooker for a change I sometimes add a can of pineapple tid bits or a cup or two of cranberry juice or crab apples.
makes it a change from just ham.
for spices I use chinese five spice or nut meg.
I like slow cooking things as they are moister and have more flavour.
If I use the oven for the slow cooking I make a pot of baked beans and a dish of scalloped potatoes. Nice to have the entire meal out of the oven.
