This looks too good to pass! Have you tried it with ground turkey instead of beef? I am tempted to try it out!
Yes you can. It is the barbecue sauce in this that really makes the recipe.
I can’t wait to try this! It reminds me of the Barbecue sauce my mom made for beef short ribs.
Have you made these dairy free before? I’m trying to expand the menu items my dairy allergic toddler can have. Also, do you normally use quick oats or the more whole (rolled?) Oats? All the commercially made meatballs i have seen have dairy so I’ve never tried meatballs with him.
We use quick oats. I have not made it dairy free but you could make a quarter of a batch and use water to replace the milk. The most that would probably happen is just that they would crumble more (although the eggs are the binder in this recipe) or the texture would be different.
That’s a good idea for the1/4 batch to try it the first time! Thanks
What is liquid smoke? Any alternatives if I can’t find it?
Liquid smoke is a liquid usually found in with the bar b que sauces at WalMart and grocery stores. It has the best smokey bar b que flavor like from the grill. The only thing that you might use to replace it maybe is smoked paprika.
Can’t wait to try these – they look & sound so yummy and great to freeze for later! I have made your chocolate sauce & Salsa from your Dining On A Dime Cookbooks (I have 1 & 2) & both were spot on delicious!! Love watching you, Jill & Mike (& your boys & Ellie on occasion), Y’all are such fun & informative folks!! I appreciate all y’all do to help us folks navigate our crazy mixed up lives! God bless & keep on doing what you’re doing!
Thank you Karen so much. We really do appreciate you guys for taking the time to send a sweet comment so much. Your prayers, encouragement and support really help us more than I think you realize so thank you again.
I have used mocha mix to make meatballs dairy free.
I will try these this week – they sound really delicious.
Jill, I just wanted to tell you how much I enjoy all your videos. You and your daughter work well
together (and your son-in-law, too). In this uncomfortable world we have been experiencing, your
family is a true beacon of light and good feelings.
Oh Sherry thank you so much!
I’m intrigued but always make meatballs with spaghetti. What do you serve these with?
Rolls and veggies or fruit.
I’m tempted to try the meatball recipe with spaghetti sauce instead of barbecue sauce. Seems like it’s a good all around recipe
I’m going to try the barbecue sauce one day too but does the recipe really call for 2 tbsp of liquid smoke? I’ve used it in the past and find it very strong. I’ll try a fraction of the amount and add more as needed. Thank you for the recipe
These are defintely the best barbque meatballs ever. Always a hit whenever I make them. So easy to make too. I sometimes add venison to the ground beef. Thank you for all your easy recipes that taste like I’ve spent hours in the kitchen and your cost saving tips have saved me $$ at the grocery store. Love you guys!
Hello, I made your BBQ Sauce today. It is very tasty, yummy!!. I was all ready to mix it together and realized I didn*t have all your ingredients. I have 1cp. ketchup, 1 1/2 cp. brown sugar, liquid smoke , onion powder. Well I guess the only thing I was missing was another cp of ketchup. I found Diana Sauce ” Honey Garlic sauce” It turned out OK. I wish I had home made meat balls though it would have been wonderful. I had bought Italian style meat balls, I used them once before. Not fussy over them but I have to figure out how to use them up !! Thanks for listening.
