Quick And Easy Beef Stew Recipe – Mom’s Crockpot Beef Stew

February 26, 2026 by 17 Comments

This quick and easy beef stew recipe is mom’s beef stew recipe and it is the best beef stew you will ever eat! Every time I make it, everyone raves about how great it is. It’s so great we hardly ever have leftovers! If you need a quick and easy meal to put in the crockpot or on the stove to simmer, this is the recipe for you!!

This easy beef stew recipe creates a hearty, comforting dish in the crockpot or on the stovetop. It's a home-cooked meal just like grandma used to make, and your family will love it. This stew recipe is a great way to repurpose leftover round steak, pot roast, or any other meat into a delicious stew.

This beef stew recipe is a tasty, tummy warming recipe for cool winter days! It is so quick and easy to make that I make it frequently. My kids have always loved it and they still request it if too much time has gome by since the last time we ate it.

This stew is very versatile. You can easily use leftovers in places of some of the ingredients. For example, in place of the round steak, you can use leftover round steak, roast or other leftover beef.

This is a very low cost recipe and is very tasty as written, but you can feel free to modify it to your liking. If you prefer, you can add or take away veggies and if you don’t mind the extra cost, you can add more meat.

If you have leftover potatoes, carrots or onions, this recipe is a great way to use them. You can really add any other stew vegetable that sounds good to you, so if you have leftovers you need to use, you can throw them into this recipe. Bell peppers and celery might also go well with this recipe.

This quick and easy beef stew recipe is from volume 1 of our cookbook:

This recipe looks Delicious! How do I adapt it for a crockpot? How much less liquid do I use, and how long should I cook it in the crockpot? Thanks. I love your blog!

Thanks so much. Do the recipe the same, cook on high for 4-6 hrs or low 10-12 hrs. You can cook the meat for the first couple of hours if you want then add the veggies if you want too.

I made this today exactly as written except with venison steak. I was tempted to add stuff but I decided to just stick to the recipe. It’s perfect! Thank you!

Had to laugh when you said you did it exactly as written- it reminded me of a poem that said something like I at the best cake at my friends and she gave me the recipe. When I made it I had no milk so I added water, I had no sugar so I added honey, had no oil so I added applesauce (etc) and the last line said “I wonder why it didn’t taste like my friends cake at all” ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

Would you cook the entire recipe if you were making a freezer meal? Trying to plan ahead for baby.

You can cook it all and put it in packets to freeze for as many meals as you want. If you only want to do a smaller amount then you can half or quarter the recipe easily.

Thank you Krista. I have made this recipe for years. You don’t need a ton of ingredients and it is really easy to throw together. As an added bonus my grandsons seem to love this stew better than any others so it is a win win. ๐Ÿ™‚

You are so welcome Carol. One thing on this stew recipe be sure to add the allspice and the lemon juice etc. this is what makes the flavor so good even though it sounds strange to have these things in a stew recipe.

I made this recipe today and you are right it is a great recipe. My family loved it. I just cooked it on the stove but the sauce wasn’t as dark as I wanted so I added some Kitchen Bouquet to it. Looked wonderful and tasted great. I made extra but it didn’t last.
