I am soooo going to try the recipe for homemade White Castle hamburgers! We don’t have a White Castle in our area, but it is my husband’s favorite place in the world and he misses it terribly. His birthday is on August 8th, and this will be a wonderful surprise for him.

I just wanted to let you know that the onion ring recipe is NOT gluten free. Nearly all ready-to-eat cereals have malt barley in them. (You could find a gluten free corn flakes substitute on Amazon or in Whole Foods.)

Teresa I don’t usually make my menus glutton free or for any special diet need. There are way to many people out there now who can’t eat this or that so there is no way I can do that. Tawra once in awhile will post something when she runs across a recipe she likes but I know many of our readers do and assume most know to just adapt or substitute what they need to for their special need.

Also, the hamburgers are not gluten free, as Lipton Soup mix is not gluten free, and of course the buns aren’t gluten free.

Teresa, if one recipe is gluten free I put it in that category. I figured if people have this problem they know how to figure out which recipes are gluten free or not in each menu.

I am eager to try making onion rings with this recipe. I have tried frying them but they never turn out crispy and these sound like the cereal will be crispy. Also, baking is better for me, too, so will try these this weekend. I bought some large onions at the farmers’ market last weekend so one onion will be the perfect size for us to use.
When I was a young girl and working at my first job, my roommate and I would stop at a White Castle for burgers to take home on Friday nights or after a date, we’d stop for a bag of burgers. Great stuff, that, and good memories. Can’t wait to make these, either.

How do you prepare the ground beef–with or without the soup and cheddar before placing on the buns. Sounds delicious; can’t wait to try these.

Anne you mix everything together – raw hamburger, soup and cheddar. Place it on the buns then bake. That is why you bake it for so long because everything needs to be cooked. I hope I understood your question right. Let me know if it is still confusing.

Can I use something else besides cornflakes in onion rings. I don’t have any. Thanks

Yes Mary you could use something like Ritz crackers, soda crackers, crushed potato chips or any cracker like that. Could replace the cornflake crumbs with just flour the crumbs just make the onion rings have a little more texture and more crunch.

There may be some grease but it really depends on the kind of hamburger you use. It won’t be a whole lot different then say making Texas toast and buttering both sides of the bread with butter before frying or something like that. I don’t mind some grease in my diet and prefer it because it adds a nice flavor to the food.
