Homemade Tootsie Rolls Recipe Using Just 4 Ingredients

June 11, 2016 by 8 Comments

This Homemade Tootsie Rolls recipe is so easy to make and uses only 4 ingredients and they’re a fun project when the kids are home. The kids will love rolling them out and shaping them! They do need to set overnight before they’re really ready to eat.

4 Ingredient Homemade Tootsie Rolls Recipe

Homemade Tootsie Rolls Recipe

12 oz. chocolate chips
1/2 cup light corn syrup
3/4 tsp. water
1 1/2 tsp. orange flavoring – optional  (You can use other flavorings or just vanilla)

Melt chocolate chips. Then add the remaining ingredients. Line a pan that is about 13×17 with wax paper and spread the mixture on it until it is about 1/2 inch thick. It won’t go to the edges of the pan. Cover and let set overnight. It will be stiff but flexible. Now just roll it into pieces the size or shape you want. When they are all shaped, cover and let set again until they firm up again. They are ready to wrap in individual papers like wax, paper, plastic wrap etc.

No it has not been corrected. It still calls for 3/4 cup of water.

Do these stay firm? I know Tootsie Rolls are one candy recommended sending overseas to troops because they don’t melt. Would these work?

Yes if you cook these right they will be exactly like a regular Tootsie Roll in all ways so they should be ok to send. Be sure to wrap them maybe in wax paper or something like that and even if they do soften some they will still be able to eat them. I followed the recipe exactly and while they tasted good, they were very sticky and difficult to work with. I ended up putting them in the fridge the next day to firm them up and will store them there. I wouldn’t make these again, at least not if I was giving them as gifts or taking them to a party.

Candy can be a little tricky sometimes. The humidity, even a few drops extra of liquid can effect the out come. Like baking a pie too you sometimes have to practice making them a few times.
