If you’re wondering how to make homemade butter, here are several easy ways to do it! This easy old fashioned homemade butter recipe is the same process our great-grandmothers used to make butter on the farm.

I have to admit, I am one of those crazy people who loves making things the old-fashioned way. I probably wouldn’t make this homemade butter recipe on a regular basis, because it doesn’t really save money to make butter yourself, but it sure is fun to see how just plain whipping cream can turn into butter.
The funny thing is that I have never made homemade butter with my kids (probably because I didn’t want to get a hand cramp mixing the butter! lol). After my daughter tried it herself just for fun, I thought I would share the homemade butter recipe. This is really one of the easiest recipes you can make because it is really only a 1 or 2 ingredient recipe, but you do have to have a little patience! It’s especially good if you’re trying to teach your kids where food comes from.

Another good use for that buttermilk is for mashed potatoes. Use it instead of regular milk. It gives them a wonderfully rich taste. I keep powdered buttermilk at home, and I mix it with the cooking water to use for mashed potatoes.
Love buttermilk in mashed potatoes. Thanks for the reminder. Good idea on using the powered buttermilk too.
I have a question? If your site is named “living on a dime” why on earth would you not make this on a regualar basis. I just made some and it literally took me all of 3 minutes. By starting out the post by saying that it gives it a very negative tone that will discourage people from trying this really easy and economical recipe. Butter at my grocery store averages 5-7 dollars a lb. I was able to make a lb. from a pint and a half. Which cost about $2.89 and that was the organic heavy cream… Just sayin
You need to know all the facts Gina before judging something. I can get my butter for way less than $2.89 a pound so why should I pay more for making my own plus have all the time (even if it is a small amount of time) put into making it on top of that. You need to be careful because we assume so much like prices are the same every where and that homemade is always cheaper.
i do this sometimes just to have somehomemade butter. i usaully get it when it is on sale
Lol! I loved your video! My 5 year old son and I were laughing all the way through it. We’re trying it now. Thanks!
