Easy Cooking Tips
- If your cutting board slides around while using it, place a damp dishrag or towel under it to prevent sliding.
- Using a bowl to put your trash in while cooking is nice but an even easier idea is to lay a plastic grocery bag opened up and flatten by your work area instead. This way, you can close and tie up the bag when you are done and either put it in the trash or compost pile. With a bowl, you have to carefully try to dump it all in the trash when you are done, sometimes causing stuff to spill. You also have a dirty bowl to wash. Using the bag, I don’t feel like I have to worry about dumping it right away because it is sealed and won’t attract flies or gnats and it won’t smell.
- Slightly frozen meat cuts much easier than fully thawed meat.
It is soo good to have menu ideas , you are doing the work for us , and spectacular recipes !!! thank you so much
These recipes sound good and simple for older people that get tired easy, women that work and women that have children and are in a hurry. I’m anxious to try they.
I am excited to try these Texas potatoes!! I inherited a recipe for Texas potatoes from my husband’s grandmother, but since it calls for 2 sticks of butter I hardly ever make it–one of my hubby’s favorites, though. Perhaps this will be a good swap out for when it isn’t a holiday. 🙂
Cheaper than the plastic bag is using sheets of newspaper to lay trash on. Wrap up nicely and throw in the trash when you are done. Good for when the food waste is to go in your own or municipal compost. The paper is biodegradable and I also like that it is flat right away.
Learned this from grandma. She also used sheets of newspaper, previously cut to preferred size, to get anything gooey from the sink, instead of dirtying a rag or using paper towels.
Yes years ago before plastic bags we use to use newspaper for everything and you are right it works great. I don’t take the newspaper any more because it is way to expense here and I get the plastic bags for free. I miss not having my stack of newspapers so much. I actually a couple of days ago asked my neighbor if she could get some for me from her mom. I use them in the flower beds to lay a thick layer to keep the weeds down. Like you say they decompose after a couple of years and are good for the soil.
The Texas Potatoes are a hit wherever I take them! Dinner Day Sundays at church are an especially good place to serve them. A few weeks ago, I was out of cream of chicken soup, so I substituted cream of mushroom soup. I think those potatoes “went over” even better than the dish made with cream of chicken soup! Yes, it changes the way it looks (makes it darker), but the taste more than made up for the difference in color. Awesome recipe! Not too many ingredients, and a stick-to-your-ribs kind of dish! Perfect!!!
Thank you for the new recipes the Texas potatoes are going to be tried and the bacon cheese meatloaf sounds good also. Everything sounds delicious. Some recipes I will have to cut back on the ingredients or invite someone for supper , or pick things I know can freeze afterwards. Thank you .
My 9-year old son and I made the meatloaf and potatoes tonight! They were so good! The whole family loved them and we made some great memories cooking together.
