The BEST Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Looking for a quick and easy way to make delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with ingredients you probably already have? Look no further than this recipe! With just 5 minutes of prep time, you can have a batch ready to go in no time. And once your family tastes these mouth-watering cookies, they’ll be asking for more!

The best part of this recipe is you can make any variation of these cookies that you want. You can leave out the chocolate chips and make them oatmeal raisin cookies instead. You can add coconut, nuts, cranberries, dark and white chocolate or any combination of these that you like.  This is a great basic recipe to mix up and then include any add ins that you want!

People always ask if they can use butter instead of shortening. You can but make sure you know the difference in how each cooks and how it will affect your cookies before changing it.

  • Butter makes the cookies very tasty, but they are flat and crisp.
  • Shortening makes fluffy cookies but it doesn’t give them as much flavor.

To get the best of both worlds, you can combine both shortening and butter to get a nice fluffy cookie with flavor.

I actually like to use the butter flavored shortening, still get the taste but the shortening I think works better than butter.

I bought your cookbook in 2018. Are the recipes in your anniversary edition different?

The only thing that is different in the anniversary edition is that we added about 28 new recipes and a few family pictures and stories – otherwise they are the same

I made these cookies yesterday without the chocolate chips, instead I put a simple glaze on top. My husband loves them. They are so easy to make.

Emily you can it is just that they are chewier and the texture slightly different but some people like it that way. The quick oats are a little finer and gives a more blended smooth texture.

I run the whole oats in a blender for 1 second and it helps.

You could whizz the oats in a food processor for just right oats.

Hi Jill/Hi Tawra! hope you are all doing well and thank you for this recipe. Looks a little healthier with all those oats! May I offer a suggestion for this isolation/quarantine time? I watched Tawra’s video the other day where she said, don’t try to learn to make bread right now if you’ve never done it before, so you don’t waste your flour, etc. on a failed attempt. I was thinking she was so right, so I went a step further. If I want something sweet, I’m using all those pouch mixes and cake mixes that I always stock, so I don’t use my flour and sugar, something not easy to get here in the Northeast right now. Hope this helps someone, and please stay healthy and well during this scary time! Best —

I love oats and chocolate. And have never that i can remember, had an oatmeal chocolate cookie.
All the ingredients are on the counter now except for the soda. You americans call carbonated beverages ‘soda’ so what kind to use? Coke, orange crush, sprite?

Sorry Sue when these recipes were written was before the internet and some of the things are different than in the UK. Yes some people do call carbonated beverages sodas here but the soda we are referring to in the recipes are usually baking soda or what you guys over there call bicarb soda. Hope that clears it up and you have all the ingredients you need to make them now. These are really yummy cookies too. My grandkids love them.

I love oatmeal cookies. How long does minute oats last in that cardboard container it comes in? Thank you very much.
