Easy 4th of July Recipes

Easy 4th of July Recipes

Most of us have our favorite dishes and traditions for the 4th of July so, instead of giving you a menu, I thought I would give you some new 4th of July recipes to add to our old standbys and favorites like hamburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, potato salad and baked beans.

  • Don’t wait until Christmas to make pretzels rolled in chocolate. Roll pretzel sticks in melted white chocolate and then in red and blue sprinkles. Serve in a pretty glass or vase.
  • Add a tablespoon of sugar to your deviled eggs for extra flavor.

Easy 4th of July Recipes:

Sausage And Beef Hamburgers

1 lb. hamburger
1/4 lb. Italian sausage (or any sausage)
1 egg
1/2 onion, chopped

Mix everything and make into patties. Chill for 30 minutes. Grill. Add a slice of pepper jack cheese and a dollop of barbecue sauce and serve on an onion bun.

Tomato Cucumber Salad

2-3 tomatoes, cubed
2-3 cucumbers, cubed
Fresh dill, to taste
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 Tbsp. sour cream

Mix ingredients and serve.

Grilled Mixed Veggies

1 med. yellow squash, peeled and sliced
1 med. zucchini, peeled and sliced
6 fresh mushrooms
2 large tomatoes, cut in 6th’s
1 sweet red pepper, julienned
1 green pepper, julienned
1/2 cup baby carrots
1/4 cup prepared Ranch dressing
1/4 cup prepared Italian dressing

Mix veggies and divide onto 6 squares of heavy duty foil. Mix dressings and drizzle on veggies. Seal well. Grill on each side for 10-13 minutes.

I haven’t tried this recipe myself but these cookies sure sounded good. Independence Day Cookies seem like a perfect 4th of July recipe so I thought you might like to try them!

Independence Cookies

2 cups butter flavored shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
4 cups flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
12 oz. white chocolate chips
12 oz. dried cranberries
12 oz. dried blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream shortening, sugars and eggs. Add flour, soda and salt. Fold in chips and berries. Chill until firm. Roll into balls about golf ball size and press to 1/2 inch thick. Bake 10-12 minutes.

These all sound good:) One easy 4th of July treat I make are Patriotic Fruit Kabobs-I alternate chunks of fresh strawberries, bananas and blueberries on a kabob stick. I cut the bananas in good size pieces and lightly toss in either orange or lemon to prevent them from turning brown. I try to make them no more than a couple of hours ahead and keep them chilled. They are really pretty fanned out in a circle on a round tray. I have made fruit dip and put in a center bowl-this can be colored blue or red, if you’d like.

I sure hope you heal quickly! I also want to wish all a Happy 4th of July, and may God bless America!!

All these recipes sound good. Love the cookie ideas, so unusual, but pretty and tasty sounding.

The veggies would be even a little easier if you don’t peel the squashes. That will also add a little more color.

    The cookies sound really yummy!

Anyone have a cheap source of dried blueberries? I bought the ingredients to make a half recipe but the blueberries were $3.98 for 4 oz. at Walmart.

If you can find a grocery store that sells dried fruits and cereals in bins, where you weigh and package your own, they run a little cheaper because they don’t come in fancy packaging, so you pay less. You might be able to use less in the recipe too. Wegmans is a good store for bins of things.

In the cookie recipe is it cream shortening, sugars AND eggs or should it be cream shortening and sugars (until light and fluffy) and ADD eggs?

The recipe sounds good, but I want to make sure of the preparation method.

If looking for a good price on dried fruit, Trader Joes in our area seems to consistently have good prices and great selection. If you haven’t been in a Trader Joes, most of their items have their own label, which keeps their price to consumer low.

    July 1 is Canada’s Birthday.
So we celebrate being Canadian but still part of the British commonwealth.
Almost every town has fireworks and parks are full of things to do.
Parliament Hill in Ottawa has music groups performing all day and the Snow Birds fly overhead and there are fireworks there as well.
Some speeches but mostly just fun and entertainment. Native groups and the Inuit have displays of their traditional music and dancing which is really great to see.
The Ukranians have their traditional dancing and almost every group that came to the country to live have displays of their culture.

It is really a country wide birthday party.

Happy July 1st, Grandma! I didn’t know it was Cananda’s birthday either. Hope you have a super time. I think everyone in my part of the US is hoping for a cool down. The heat has been really intense. My grass is all brown and crispy. I just can’t see spending the money to water it, though. My neighbors have been trying, but it’s a battle.

How are you doing with the heat, Jill? What can you do to stay busy when we have to be inside so much? I have cleaning staring me in the face-just doesn’t look like much fun!

I’m right there with you Barb. I was looking at a nice layer of dust on everything this morning thinking I really need to take care of it, then there’s my living room that needs painting and I have been putting it off. I just can’t get started today. Glad to know I’m not the only one in that spot. I usually don’t have a problem being cooped up because it gives me a good excuse to read or sew but I’m out of books and can’t decide what to sew so I’m really at loose ends today.

I haven’t been turning my air on until late afternoon either. My house is staying pretty cool even with 105-106 temps. but I can’t get too active because then I start getting hot. My basement is nice and cool and that is where I do most of my work for the business which is nice. I don’t even have to have a fan down here.

Anyway misery loves company and it is good to know someone else is starring at cleaning today and not wanting to do it. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

This is an aussie who came to Canada and is explaining some of what we are from an outsiders view.
Kind of cute but it is true.

        I am not an Aussie.
This article was written up in one of the Papers by a recent immigrant from Australia.
I liked what he wrote so thought you and your readers might enjoy reading it.
My great grandfather and his family came from Ireland settled in Ontario and made a farm there that was just recently sold out of the family.
My grandfather was born in the one room log cabin on that farm and the house was expanded to fit the final family of 8. He also died in that same room 98 years later. Now my uncle and aunt are living in the original log cabin because the people who bought the house said it was a shame to have them leave the house. So they put in a kitchen area the bathroom was already there and they have their own entrance because the door was there to the outside through the living room.
Nice people because they sure didn’ have to do that.
But no the article is by someone else not me.

Canada Day-replace blueberries with cranberries in the cookies.

My favorite things to eat: a hotdog that has a little black on it from the grill, perfectly toasted marshmellow, watermellon and a rootbeer float.

I wanted to attend the Smithsonian Folk Life Festival on the Washington DC mall this week. Yesterday at 11:30 I noticed it was 84 degrees so I walked over. By the time I came back it was 91!

The Smithsonian folklife fest is normally a few days before and after Julyl 4th if you ever visit DC. This year the have a Hungary, Adornment and African American exhibitaiton. It’s free! erFabulous free event!)

Love the recipes! Happy 4th of July to everyone. We are keeping it simple just hotdogs on the grill and some chips and dip along with some watermelon. Around 10 pm we will watch the fireworks. We are lucky we can sit on our front porch and have a wonderful view.

I love to make a fruit pizza with fresh local fruit. You bake a sugar cookie (crust) thin round on large cookie sheet or stone. Mix cream cheese, butter, vanilla and powdered sugar to make a semisweet frosting for the cookie after it is cooled. I like to use blueberries (local) and strawberries (sliced – from Sam’s Club). Great decoration, simple and delicious. You can add almonds and almond extract instead of the vanilla in the frosting layer. Thanks for the Canadian history and recipes!!
