Passover Meal Ideas

Hi Tawra,

I like your emails–thanks for your help. Does your family celebrate Passover/ Feast of Unleavened Bread? If so, what is an easy, healthy (waist–slimming) menu? Also, do you have an easy, healthy (waist–slimming) Easter menu, including for kids on both menus?

Thanks, Stacey

I am looking for recipes to celebrate a Jewish Passover. I would like to get great tasting food for the meal. Do you have any ides where to find any.

Blessings Wendy G

We don’t celebrate Passover but maybe some of you have some ideas. Please share!! Tawra

    Hello —

We celebrate Passover, and for the non-Seder meals I try to feed my family meals that I would normally serve them year-round, therefore minimizing the need to buy too many specialized Passover products. For instance, grilled or baked chicken with steamed vegetables and potatoes is a typical “weeknight” passover dinner at our house. A lunch my kids love year-round are baked potatoes with tons of toppings (butter, shredded cheese, steamed broccoli florets, sour cream and chives — yum!!). We go through more fruit and veggies than usual, but I view that as a good change, healthwise! And, of course, eggs are an economical and versital entree — Matza Brei anyone!! Hope this helps! Take care!

    Shalom!
Our family favorite for Passover is Creamy Cauliflower Soup. It’s basically potato, broth, celery, onion, cauliflower, garlic and olive oil. Cook all the vegetables and blend the soup. Season as desired. Also it’s helpful to bring to a vegan meal. The kids love it with matzah balls.

Our meal consist of Rosemary baked chicken with potatoes and veggies. For desert I prepare my husbands favorite macaroon cookies and no bake jello coconut cream pie. Very easy to prepare and adds just the right touch after the meal! Easy!

This year I have decided to try some new recipes for Passover. While looking for recipes on line I found this website: http://www.koshercooking.com/Recipes/passover/index.html There are a lot of good ones on there. I am going to do the Chicken in Orange Sauce. It is supposed to be low fat.

And Hannah I love the Creamy Cauliflower Soup. Yummy.

my no bake coconut creme pie recipe is easy and fast

take one of the pudding mixes that you add milk and stir until thick.
add coconut flavour and non sweetened coconut.
spoon into a graham cracker crust top with whipped cream or leave it plain.
    voila one coconut creme pie.
let the little ones shake a jar of the pudding while you make the crust.

During Unleavened Bread we always have a meal of unleavened tortillas stuffed with grilled chicken, lettuce, and tomatoes. The leftover tortillas are used the next day for peanut butter and jelly. The children love them! I hope more people start keeping the feasts found in Leviticus 23. After all, verse two says that they are the Lord’s feasts, not Jewish feasts.
