I’m known in my family and with friends for “telling it like it is”. As a matter of fact when I was in Holland I got a plaque that said “Lord, Please help me to keep my big mouth shut until I know what I’m talking about!” That’s been my motto ever since but it still hasn’t kept me from just “telling the truth” most times. (Tact has never been a strong quality of mine!)
Well, the nut doesn’t fall far from the tree and now my kids tell are telling me the truth! Last night at dinner I asked Mike, “Am I a nag? There was this lady on TV who nagged her family to keep everything spotlessly clean and they were all sick of it. She wouldn’t even let her husband finish making something in the kitchen before putting away the stuff. She NEVER stopped nagging them and the family was very much stressed out because of it.”
My daughter Elly responded, “Of course not mom, you’re not a nag… Look at that big mess in the kitchen!” LOL We just couldn’t stop laughing! I have to say I wasn’t sure how to take that, especially since I had been working all day long to keep the house spotless in case we need to show it! It always amazes me how when the kids get home from school everything just seems to blow up! 🙂

I love it. One of the things I love about being a grandparent is I get to see my grand kids say and do all the things my kids did to me. 😀 What comes around goes around. 😉

Out of the mouth of babes! I teach small children at church, and I know their parents would turn inside out if they knew some of the things their children “share” during class time. Honest, yes! Tactful, no!
Kids say the funniest things! Just the other day when I was prodding my 11 yr old daughter, Jenna to rush, she stated,”If you want the Jenna you get the WHOLE Jenna.” Very funny statement and made me realize to accept her as she is. She is truly a wonderful person!

I have the same trait. I tell it like it is. I do not like to hurt anyone with what I say, but if asked my opinion I will “tell it like it is.” For example, the other day at work someone asked me if I believe all the crazy weather, earthquakes, volcanoes etc is due to Global Warming and I said no. Then they asked me what I think is causing all the chaos and I said I think God is not happy with all the sin in the world. Comments like that usually shut people up pretty quick. They don’t even want to think that could be a possibility. Sorry you did ask???
Tawra, I had a friend who was trying to sell her house and it had been on the market for quite sometime. Well, one night the realtor called to say they were bringing someone over in about 30 minutes – She had just got through making fried chicken, mashed potatos and gravy and all the other trimmings and the kitchen was an absolute wreck but smelled fantastic. She did the best she could and do you know she sold that house – they couple put an offer on that night and one of the comments was that Home cooked meal “smell” made the house more “cozy” and family oriented which is what they were wanting.
A teacher at the school my children went to said at the first parent teacher conference and I quote
“I promise to not believe everything your child tells me, if you promise to not believe everything they tell you about me.”
knowing children I thought this was a wise older teacher.
Nancy good story. I know a couple too who had a roast in the oven for that evenings meal. The people bought their house and they said the same thing.
Even though I recommend the cinnamon mix simmering on the stove a turkey, chicken or roast in the oven isn’t a bad idea.

That is cute. You have a loving family and that is nice. They aren’t afraid to be honest and that’s a good thing.
Sounds like the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree in your daughter also telling it like it is.
I’ve raised my children to always be honest….and it’s made me cringe many times! lol Rather have a few “awkward moments” than have them censor their truth telling though.
Talk about what goes around comes around. My daughter is a wonderful person but her teen-age years were filled with drama – everything was a big deal – from talking on the phone to staying out late at a party to going to bed on time, etc. You get the picture. And everything was done at high volume. I used to hope that she would have a daughter who was similar in attitude to hers. Yesterday, she called and was telling me about her 6 yr old daughter. Seems her son got to make the announcements at school and was allowed to invite a guest for lunch. He invited his mom. The daughter went off the chart – she got to do the announcements but wasn’t able to invite a guest. She was very indignant and just plain raised a fuss. I just chuckled and said “seems like you have your own drama queen.” She laughed and said that now she knew what a pain in the “a_ _ she was. I said that Mal was only 6 – think how many more years you have to enjoy this. Life is wonderful and it’s really fun to see your life reflected in your kids. Wish I lived closer to see them more often, though.
