Homemade Lip Exfoliator

Try this quick tip to combat dry lips!

My lips were really dried out when we got back from Colorado. I really enjoyed using a sample of lip exfoliator that someone had given me. I was desperate and I thought I would try to make my own.

I took a small amount of ChapStick, dipped it in some sugar, rubbed (more like scrubbed) it on my lips and wiped it off.

Wow! My lips were like new! All the dry skin was gone and my lips were really soft.

After that I just LOVED  it so much that I decided to make my own. Here’s my recipe

Sugar scubs are suppose to be good for skin. Thanks.

Thanks for the tip. I use sugar to exfoliate my face all the time but hadn’t thought of making a lip scrub.

I went to the cosmetic counter at our local drug store recently looking for a a lip exfoliator, ready to pay whatever was needed I was so desperate. The clerk told me her secret: brown sugar and vitamin E oil. I thanked her and went to a grocery bargain store I knew sold the pure oil and created my own. works great and I’ve found it works great on my face, too!

My lips get very dry in the winter, too. When brushing my teeth, I just brush my lips with the toothbrush, using only water for my lips. I’ve done this for years and it’s really helped. It gets the dry skin off really well and I tell my kids to do this, too.

Warm used coffee grounds do good too!

I have kept a small container of cornmeal (not corn flour)in my bathroom toiletry tray. Mix it with any good cold cream or moisturizer and it makes a cheap and efficient exfoliator. just put a dab of cream in your palm, and add 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. of the dry cornmeal, and mix it right in the palm of your hand. Best when applied to a wet face; scrub lightly and gently. Rinse well with several splashes of warm water, then a final cold rinse.

I was formerly an esthetician and have found that sugar, although fine for the rest of the body, is not necessarily the best for your face of lips. Cornmeal or rice powder are preferable. The cornmeal is easier used mixed with something, however the rice powder works great by itself on wet skin. Cornmeal is a little harsher on the skin and is fine 1-2 times weekly, but the rice powder is gentle and can be used everyday.

I can understand that sometimes sugar and other abrasive things can be a little harsh on the skin but lips are much tougher and usually sugar used once in awhile on the lips for a scrub does not hurt them as far as the research I have done says. Actually I get more sugar on my lips from eating cinnamon toast and sugared doughnuts then I do with my sugar scrub so I am pretty sure it is ok to use.

What a great idea to use up that last little bit of chapstick left in the tube.

I prefer a salt scrub. The grains are much smaller and gentler.
