I love these recipes. I love apple dumplings and see them selling in stores this time of year for $2.99 each! I made them using pie crusts and it’s so easy I could hardly believe it. So now I don’t have to pay $2.99 for one, which I think is outrageous. Also, the add-ins for the baked apples sound great and I will give them a try.

These recipes are great ideas. I’ve also heard that you could prepare the apples ahead of time and keep them in the refrigerator or freezer and then when the kids want a snack just bake. This would be a healthier alternative to all the potato chips and sugary snacks that most kids eat.

The baked apples sound good, but what is the baking time and temp. for them?

Sorry Evelyn. It is the same as the dumplings. 375 degrees for about 20-30 mins or until the apples are tender. It depends on the size of apple you use for how long it takes to cook.

Haven’t had these in 50 years! Had forgotten all about them. Mom used to make them instead of apple pies so my Dad could take one without sauce in his lunch box! Thanks for reminding me of them, I’ll pick up some apples and do some this next week.

I’ve heard that for baked apples some people put honey at the bottom instead of brown sugar. Also I’ve heard that if you brush the apples with lemon juice they will not brown so you can freeze them and bake any time you want. The apple dumpling recipe also sounds delicious.

    ■1-½ cup Sugar
    ■1 teaspoon Vanilla
    ■Cinnamon, To Taste

Peel and core apples. Cut each apple into 8 slices each. Roll each apple slice in a crescent roll. Place in a 9 x 13 buttered pan.

Melt butter, then add sugar and barely stir. Add vanilla, stir, and pour entire mixture over apples. Pour Mountain Dew around the edges of the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Serve with ice cream, and spoon some of the sweet sauces from the pan over the top.
