After Valentine's Day Sales And Flowers Ideas

After Valentine’s Day Sales And Flower Tips

One of the best ways to save money is to shop the sales right after holidays and stock up on things that might be useful for future holidays. When you do this, you can get lots of great things that are useful for many occasions for just a fraction of the cost of buying it before the holiday. Here are a few tips to help you save money after Valentine’s Day:

  • As with Christmas, don’t forget to buy the Valentine’s Day candy that is on sale after Valentine’s Day to use for Easter. You can also use the chocolate as a substitute for almost anything that calls for chocolate chips.
  • Stock up on Valentine’s cards, candy and other things for next year.
  • I love fresh flowers but they are so expensive that they are a luxury item for me. The mornings after Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, I go to my regular grocery store where I can usually find unbelievable buys on fresh flowers.
  • If your sweetie gave you flowers for Valentine’s Day, here is how to keep them fresh and get the most out of them.

    • Everyone has her own favorite way of keeping flowers fresh. Mine is to cut all the stems at an angle, add about a 1/4 tsp. of sugar and 2-3 drops of Clorox to a vase of warm water. The warm water helps the blooms to open fully out. Change the water every 3-4 days. Most of the time my flowers last for 2 weeks or more when I do this. I also remove any flower as it dies so it won’t contaminate the other ones.
    • If you smell a strange odor in your house and can’t figure out what it is, check your fresh flowers. If they start rotting or getting mold in the water, they can smell awful.

Ran into Walgreens last night for my husband some cold medicine on the way home from church, and saw there were tons of candies left from Valentines day. This morning I bought some groceries at Winn Dixie and they still had many flowers and plants left from Valentines day. I noticed the same after Christmas. People are just not hitting the after the holiday sales. I think that just day to day living expenses are hitting us hard.

This year I got some christmass candy for 75% off at the dollar store. So I spent like $6 and got a ton of candy that will last us til summer.

I also got some christmass wrapping paper at 80% off, it will also work for a kids birthday present if needed.

It is a good deal to shop after holiday sales if you can get 75-80 % off and don’t care if the what color is the candy, as long as it’s not expired and tastes good.

After Christmas you can buy candies with red and green wrappers (Hershey’s kisses for example) on sale. You can use the ones with red wrappers for valentines day, and the ones with green for saint Patricks day. You can even give out candies with red and green wrappers on Easter if you mix them with other colors.

The sales after Valentine’s Day are a perfect time to pick up your favorite candy and flowers for half off or even more. These little indulgences become much more affordable.

Yes that is the smart way to do it Wendy – to get the things on clearance.
